Critically evaluate the evidence base of the contribution of sport to broader social policy agenda, with reference to one identified policy area (health, social exclusion, education, employment, regeneration, major events or other policy)
Design a brief proposal for a planned intervention, applying a logic model approach, supported by appropriate theory and evidence, for an identified sport development target group or community, with specific reference to post 2012 legacy.
Task
Individual report (approx. 2,500 +/- 10% words) including diagrams or logic models, with other materials in supporting appendices if necessary.
Complete a report of about 2,500 words on the evidence for the contribution of sport to health, education/employment or crime objectives, with a proposed intervention which applies good practice in sport development in this area.
The report will include a proposal for an intervention or programme to achieve increased activity or sport participation, to achieve sporting and social objectives, which clearly applies good practice identified in the report. It is expected this will be a diagrammatic form of logic model, and any additional supporting material placed in appendices. A final concluding section should bring together the critical recommendations for good practice and policy in this area and show how the proposal meets this.
(Note: the specific headings and sections are not being prescribed, the use of sections and subheadings is at the discretion of the author to fulfil the requirements below).
The proposal with recommendations for an intervention should address the needs of an identified group or community, with particular reference to achieving both sport and broader social policy objectives in the post London 2012 climate. There should be clear indications of good practice identified earlier in the report, being applied in the planned intervention.
The report should critically evaluate the evidence base of the proposed intervention, demonstrate good understanding of relevant theory and be relevant to current policy. It should also indicate the potential funding and delivery partners of any recommended intervention and set realistic targets in terms of participant outcomes.
There should be use of relevant data on neighbourhoods, health measures or other relevant indicators, to support the proposed intervention, including Active People and other national statistics or data, eg Segmentation profiles, local sport and health strategies, in a ‘needs analysis’.
In the appendix you can include any additional material in support of your proposal, such as additional information about selected area or target group/ segment, other existing proposals or reports you draw on. Y0u should structure your report to focus on the background to the problem, evidence and literature review of relevant policy and practice in support of your proposal (approx. 1500-1750 words), with an outline of the details of the proposed programme clearly focused on applying good practice in the area and evidence of need analysis (approx. 500- 750 words). Final concluding section – should be about 250 words
Assessment criteria:
The report should include:
• Background in theory and evidence in related social policy (Health, crime, social inclusion, regeneration or community cohesion)
• Examples of good practice from sport development interventions in a review of literature
• Application of a logic/theory based approach to develop new programme or intervention
• Identified community or population addressed in a proposal
• Relevant and appropriate delivery and funding sources identified
• Critical analysis of potential for this proposal to contribute to policy objectives.
• Use of relevant and appropriate primary data sources.
• A clear structure using sections and subheadings as necessary
• Full list of references in Harvard format or all sources cited in the text.
• A written style which is concise, using supporting or more descriptive materials in appendices as necessary.
• Approximately 2,500 words in length (not including reference list, diagrams/tables or appendices)

Tutorials on plans and early drafts will support the preparation of the report, but full drafts will not be reviewed prior to submission. It is your responsibility to proof read your work. At level 6 a high level of written communication is standard.
Generic L6 criteria will be used to award marks against these criteria.
For example, for GOOD work (60+) there will be:
Extensive coverage of relevant and up to date source materials, evidence and programme or policy evaluations.
Analytical approach to practice and examples in the discussion/ literature reviewed
Application of relevant theory in proposal design
Use of local and national data shows synthesis and interpretation.
Well structured work, with no major issues in grammar, syntax or style.
