Your first assessed piece of coursework comprises a portfolio of work conducted during the module. This includes the following two elements:

1.Â Â Â Â Â Summary of Reading [500 words; 30% of total marks for assignment]

A summary in your own words of the key points and arguments made in one of the weekly set readings for term one (500 words). This must be written in â€˜essay styleâ€™, with grammatical sentences and correct Harvard-style referencing (30%).

2. Research and Analysis [1,500 words; 70% of total marks for assignment]

Discuss the significance of changes in any ONE media content industry associated with ONE of the following key terms/topics:

Demassification; Convergence; Users; Technological Innovation; Format; Finance; Regulation; Distribution; Production.

You must state clearly in your opening paragraph your chosen industry and key term. Your answer will include reference to other terms listed but you should ensure your answer is explicitly focused on discussing your selected key term.

Your answer must include references to at least FIVE sources, all of which must be correctly identified in your text and in a separate bibliography, using Harvard referencing style. The bibliography is not included in the word count. Your sources will include the reading you have selected and other sources comprising academic writing, reports or publications (online or offline). For this assignment you need to conduct your own research by using the UEL library resources and by searching for relevant information from organisations and publications online. Your analysis in part two can relate to reading you have summarised for part one of the assignment or you can choose an entirely separate topic and readings.
