Your essay should be 5-7 paragraphs and use 5-7 specific examples such as slave revolts and the actions of prominent black individuals. Keep in mind that the question is dealing with the colonial period which ends when the US becomes an independent nation. Also, be sure to explain the history of each example (rather than simply listing slave rebellions) in the context of your answer.
