Health and Illness in popular culture (8-10 pages, 1 inch margins, double spaced, APA)
Please choose an illness that you have little existing knowledge about and follow media coverage about it over the duration of this course.
You may delve into the recent past (up to 5 years) as well. Please target a variety of mediums (minimum 5) and cite at least 20 sources.
Sources may include, but are not limited to, newspaper and magazine articles, novels, television and radio programs, social media, blogs, and
podcasts. In this paper, provide an objective introduction that defines the illness (you may reference WebMDi, Merck Manualii, or similar
medical guides for this section). In the remainder of the paper, describe the trends you observe, mixed-messages or competing messages, the
tone of messages, the arch of stories, the use of metaphors, and the factors that haveinfluenced the trajectory of discussion (e.g.,
celebrity involvement or new
research).
