Assignment 1: 40% of the Mark (3000 Words)
Critically analyze the current health system response to one health problem that is a national health priority (e.g. one MDG). Select a country which is classified as low income. Using evidence, please include an assessment of:
a) the current status and recent trends of indicators relevant to the health problem (e.g. MDG indicators)
b) equity in relation to poverty and gender (and other relevant social inequities)
c) national (and where relevant sub-national) policies and strategies to address the problem
d) challenges to addressing the problem
e) implications of this analysis for strategic responses to address challenges

The assessment of this assignment will be based on the following criteria:
• Appropriate and critical use of data to assess the current status and recent trends of indicators relevant to the health problem (e.g. MDG indicators) (25%)
• Appropriate discussion of equity issues using evidence (15%)
• Critical identification of national (and where relevant sub-national) policies and strategies to address the problem, using specific programmatic examples when possible (15%)
• Critical assessment of the challenges to addressing the problem using evidence (20%)
• Implications of this analysis for strategic responses to address challenges that logically refers to evidence presented in early parts of the paper (15%)
• Internal coherence (5%)
• Presentation & referencing (5%)
