You have three possibilities when it comes to the third paper:

1. If you choose not to write a second paper, the score on your first paper will simply be counted twice. You do not have to notify us, as if we do not receive a second paper we will simply assume that you would like your first grade counted twice.

2. If you write a second paper and you get a lower grade than you did on your first assignment, then we will count your first paper grade twice.

3. If you write a second paper and you get a higher grade than you did on your first assignment, then both the first and second paper grades will be counted. YOUR SECOND PAPER GRADE WILL NOT REPLACE THE FIRST GRADE.

Please remember, this assignment can only help you, it cannot lower your grade.

For those of you choosing to submit a second paper, please choose from one of the prompts below. Additionally, follow all of the formatting instructions for the previous assignment.

A. Practical Work: For this prompt, please choose ONE from among the following three artists: the playwright, the director, and the actor. Discuss the role of this individual in the process of artistic creation of theatre. Describe the most important elements of their work. Are they the most important participant in the process? Be specific and defend your position.

B. Theoretical Work: We have chosen to define theatre in a variety of different ways throughout the course. Develop you own CLEAR AND SPECIFIC definition of theatre. This may be based on one that we have discussed in class (e.g. story-telling, entertainment, education, etc). Explain this definition and why it is the best interpretation of what theatre means. Be specific and defend your defintion.
