For this assignment, you will select one of your own clients. Once again, it will be helpful to ask your client’s permission to be contacted after the visit, if needed, to complete the assignment.

Your focus for this assignment should be on pregnancy and lactation. Select a client from one of the following age categories: <25, 26–30, 31–40, and >40 years. You also need to select a stage of pregnancy, that is, first, second, third, or “fourth” trimester.

Some examples of topics you might select include:
•First trimester: Normal pregnancy, unintended pregnancy, geriatric obstetrics and genetic testing, and fertility assistance issues
•Second trimester (high-risk pregnancy): Bleeding problems (placental), multiple gestation, cervical problems, premature delivery, and diabetes
•Third trimester: Bleeding, pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH), cervical issues, preterm labor, incarcerated clients, herpes infection, and preparation for labor and birth
•Fourth trimester: Lactation or other feeding issues, adjusting to parenthood/addition to family, Baby Up For Adoption (BUFA), surrogacy, psychiatric issues, drug abuse, and cultural issues
