Choice Assignment
Choice Assignment this is a major assignment, and you are given a choice as to what you would like to do. Options include a college visit; a case study; high school profile research and evaluation; state systems research; articulation agreements research; a comparison of codes of ethics of NACAC, IECA, HECA and AICEP; GPA recalculation; and more. Worth 20 points.
20 = Paper should be between three and five typed pages and include proper heading (name, class, assignment, due date); cover all points in the chosen assignment (e.g., all points in the college visit rubric were included); place all direct quotes in quotation marks, and cite sources both directly following reference and in a bibliography at end; and is clearly written, with minimal typos. Attachments should include the student’s name and assignment in document title.
19 = 20 quality but did not include proper heading.
16 – 18 = Well written, but missing some of the required discussion areas. Note that in the college visit, one-sentence responses to a prompt are not adequate.
15 = Does not cover assignment. For example, a PowerPoint on financial aid when the assignment was a presentation on financial literacy (so transition to college information) would not be accepted.
-1/day = You have six weeks to complete this assignment. Late postings lose a point a day off the score the assignment would have received if submitted on time.
Case Study (a Choice option):
20 = Case Study suggestions should be posted within the Week 6 Choice Assignment discussion forum and not as an attachment. You should plan to suggest eight good fit (a mix of reaches, good fits, good bets) colleges for your chosen case study, with fit well articulated. Your paper should include: 1) an introduction to the student, 2) what you looked for in a school, 3) how you went about your research (methodology, including what resources you used). Recommended schools should be within the selected region and include an explanation of why you think the school is a good fit (both in and out of the classroom) for the student. As in all work, you must set direct quotations in quotation marks and cite directly behind the quote. All resources should be noted. We learn as much from classmates’ methodologies as we do from their suggestions. Each suggestion, if fully articulated, is worth two (2) points (16 points total). Introduction and methodology are also worth two (2) points each (4 points total). (16 + 4 = 20 points total)
18 = Eight schools suggested, but fit within or outside the classroom not articulated.
16 = Suggested schools listed with minimal articulation of fit.
14 = Suggested schools listed with no articulation of fit.
-1/day = Late submissions lose a point each day, off score the paper would have received.
All papers are subject to submission to Turnitin, at the instructor’s discretion.
