•Compare and contrast the authors’ views of the war (Civil War and Vietnam War). You will need to do some research on both authors.
•Compare deaths of the main characters in the stories.

1. Decide on which topic you want to use.

2. Reread the stories, underlining the passages that deal with your topic.

3. Jot down the comparisons and contrasts you want to use.

4. Put them into a flow chart.

5. Write a clear thesis statement before you begin so that you can write an organized, coherent essay.

6. Decide which passages from the story you will use for each comparison/contrast and mark them so you can find them when you need them.

7. Write your essay from your outline, including the quotations you decided to use.
