Case Report and Presentation

Students will write a case report on a Fortune 500 company analyzing the characteristics of that company’s management structure, production capabilities, operations structure, marketing strategies, pricing strategies, and financial capabilities/status. Additionally, the report should include company history, current/future business challenges and company future outlook. Students may acquire information directly from the company, news articles, press releases, etc. to establish the facts.

The report will be presented in class using Power Point or another appropriate method. The oral report is to last approximately 20 minutes. The time period will include time available for a questions and answers period. Any videos or recordings may be no longer than 5 minutes in length.
Students will write a case report on a Fortune 500 company analyzing the management characteristics of that company.
a) Management structure- Include a diagram detailing the names and positions of upper management (CEO, presidents and Vice presidents). Describe the type of organizational structure used by the company.
b) Operations structure- Describe the production system used by the company. Give estimates of the amount of product/service produced on an annual basis.
c) Marketing Strategies- How does the company market their products. If there are several product lines choose the two largest and detail those marketing strategies.
d) Financial and Strategic capabilities/status- Describe the financial status of the company with regards to profit, assets, and liabilities. How does their financial status affect the company’s strategy? Discuss aspects of how the company manages challenges and choose a current challenge that the company is currently facing. Evaluate whether they were successful, or not, in facing that challenge and determine why that outcome occurred. Determine whether the company could have handled the situation better, or were the company could have failed if they were successful.

Additionally, the report should begin with company history and end with the company’s future outlook. The history and outlook sections must be combined with an effective introduction and conclusion to the case report.

Students may acquire information directly from the company, news articles, press releases, etc. to establish the facts. References must be presented in MLA format and must include a minimum of 5 sources. Of those 5 sources, 3 must termed reliable sources and one must be a literary source. Relevant in-text citations must be used. If in-text citations are not used the case report grade will be reduced. Also please refer to the section of this syllabus regarding plagiarism.

The time period will include time available for a questions and answers period. Any videos or recordings may be no longer than 2 minutes in length.

Grading rubrics will be emailed during the first week of class.
