It is important to share the results of your professional development efforts with stakeholders in the school community. Stakeholders include teachers, parents, other administrators, and the broader community. Stakeholder involvement often begins during the planning stage when multiple stakeholders are involved in identifying professional development needs and priorities. Stakeholders want and need to know how your efforts have improved teaching and learning. At times, the results to be communicated may be difficult for stakeholders to hear, but being transparent with your results will help build trust. The results of your evaluation will guide future professional development plans.

Scenario:
You are the assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction (C&I) in your school district. This broad title places many tasks on your list of responsibilities. One of them is to analyze the school improvement plan and alignment to professional development plans developed from that effort.
Based on the evaluation of reading data three years ago, your district implemented a new reading program for grades 1?8. After three years of professional development and program implementation, the effectiveness of the district?s efforts was evaluated. The results showed no significant improvement in overall reading scores, although English Language Learners made slight gains.
