Poster

You are required to produce a case study in the form of a poster on the following disease:

– Hodgkin’s Lymphoma
FURTHER INFORMATION ON ASSIGNMENT

You are required to:
a) develop a case study on a patient with the following diseases: Lymphoma

Further information on the coursework:
The only information you have been provided with on this case study is the disease, lymphoma
Therefore, you need to decide:
• age (select an age from the typical age range the disease is diagnosed in) and gender of patient;
• What led to the patient being diagnosed (was it a routine blood test or were they symptomatic?).
• Need to describe tests performed to diagnose the condition, and the patient’s results of these tests, together with the normal reference

ranges. This means you will need to identify what abnormal findings are typically found in the disease and select appropriate ones. The

easiest way of concisely summarising this information is in a table.
• Remember to match symptoms to the laboratory values, and also to the disease stage/severity
• Describe how the disease progresses in your patient, providing further information on clinical symptoms and results of additional tests

that accompany disease progression
• Provide details of the treatments given (name, dosage, frequency) to your patient and monitoring the treatment response in your patient

(i.e. selecting appropriate values).
• The case study of a particular disease, which means you need to provide all the above information in the context of your patient. It is

not an essay in which you write about the above topic generally, it must be related to your patient.
• Need to provide references and include labelled figures appropriate and tables in the context of the disease and your patient.

SUMMATIVE IN-COURSE ASSESSMENT BRIEFING
Learning outcomes tested in this assignment On successful completion of this unit students will be able to:

1. Understand the abnormal disease processes responsible for the development of immunological diseases, their diagnosis and treatment.
2. Understand the abnormal disease processes responsible for the development of several haematological conditions, their diagnosis and

treatment, in addition to knowledge of blood groups systems (groups other than ABO and Rh), and use of blood products.
3. Understand the principles and problems of transfusion and transplantation
4. Understand the principles of a variety of analytical assays used in the fields of Immunology, Haematology and

Transfusion/Transplantation
5. Develop skills to interpret and handle data from diagnostic techniques which are used to facilitate patient diagnosis.

Assignment task instructions Prepare a case study in the format of a poster on lymphoma.
The marking criteria for the student’s report are as follows:
-fulfilment of the requirements of the assignment task (including adherence to any word page length specified);
-evidence of reading around the subject at the appropriate level, (predominantly papers), with correct and complete citation and

referencing of sources using Harvard Referencing;
-demonstrating appropriate relevance and understanding of recent research pertaining to chosen report and ability to convey information in

a succinct manner;
-evidence of critical thinking and evaluation of sources of information; delivery of a clear, well-structured, visually appealing poster;
-standard and style of written English, grammar, spelling, punctuation and use of appropriate scientific terminology.
Format and structure of the submission Maximum word limit is 600 words excluding the reference list, figure and table captions. The poster
