Final Project – We learn by doing, and the business world has many problems that can be solved with data-based applications. You will

learn the methodology to create transaction processing, reporting, and analytics systems. To demonstrate your mastery of the programming

methodologies revealed to you, you are asked to create a Visual Studio project of an application that solves a business problem (for

example retail POS, inventory management, event bookings). Its a great resume builder to create a functional program that performs many

routine business processes. Identify the problem to be solved, record the project requirements, plan out the database (optional), pages

and analytics, and then start programming by mid-semester. By week 13 of the course you should be able to create very functional

applications.

Work in groups of 2 or 3, do not work alone!!. Create a realistic system that can be used to solve the stated business problem. It is ok

to get assistance from non-class members.
This project must incorporate the advanced features presented in the class (VB.NET, ASP.NET ADO.NET, SQLServer, stored procedures). If you

do not create a program of the same functionality of demonstrated and distributed programs then your project will not be graded poorly.

Make a program that has at least the functionality of a point of sale system that records sales into database tables and tracks best-

selling products, best customers, and inventory.

The project submission requirements are as follows, Using the normal dropbox approach, submit the URL of the main page (or a zip file of a

localhost app) and a MS-Word document.

In the document:

a) include a cover page with your group name, group members and URL of your project if it is functioning on a server.

b) include a 2 page discussion of the problem, the customer, the solution, and the derived benefits from the solution.

c) use another 2 pages to give an overview of the functionality of each web page and procedure. Give written instruction on how to test

out the system (tool-tips and dropdown list choices go a long way to making programs easy to test out!).

d) Add a cropped screen shot image of your database structure (linked tables).

e) Add all commented code in an appendix.

f) Make sure you highlight in yellow special innovative code that you were not exposed to in class (things your group researched and

included).

Grading the project’s functionality: Your professor needs to assess the functionality of the program, so make all functionality obvious

(have a friend test your program to ensure this). Hidden procedures and query terms that only the designer knows about will not be graded

(please make all functionality obvious using a menu system, on-screen labels, prompts and tool tips. Add enough data to the project so

that its functionality is obvious. The project is not about typing though, so include just a handful of customer, products, and sales.

Give the professor an onscreen userID and password so they do not have to log-in and create one).
